Q. Will the shelter hold a pet for me until I can get to the shelter?
A. We are so excited that people are anxious to adopt our amazing animals, but to be sure that we don't miss an opportunity to place an animal into a home; we operate on a first come first serve basis. If we hold pets for people who do not show up or change their mind, we would likely miss wonderful opportunities with other interested people.
Q. Does filling out an adoption profile on line hold a pet for me?
A. The adoption
profile can only be printed, completed, and brought with you to save time when you arrive to adopt. Completing the profile in advance does not hold a pet for you nor can we guarantee that the pet you are interested in will still be available when you arrive. All applications are subject to approval.
Q. Is there anything else I can do to save time when I come to adopt?
A. Yes. To provide ample service to our adopting customers, applications must be submitted 30-minutes prior to closing. If you have pets at home, be absolutely certain that their vaccinations are current. If can save time if you bring their shot records with you along with a completed profile printed from our website.
Q. Is the Adoption Center open on Saturdays?
A. Yes. We are open for adoptions 11 a.m.-3:00 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of each month. We are grateful to the many volunteers who make it possible for the center to be open on these Saturdays. For information on joining our volunteers, call 260-427-2579.
Q. Does the shelter require fenced yards for all adoption dogs?
A. Not at all. We recognize that many people live in areas where fencing is prohibited and let's face it, many people love to get out and walk their dogs. Walking can give dogs the exercise and mental stimulation they need to be happy and healthy.
Q. Can I take a pet home right away?
A. In general our adoption process takes 24 hours to complete. This short wait will allow your family time to prepare your home for the arrival of the new pet and also gives our staff the time needed to process your adoption and paperwork. As an added convenience for our adopters, we schedule spay or neuter appointments for most of our animals prior to sending them to their new home, so that adopters won't need to worry about completing the surgery at a later date.
