Service Projects Combine your tour of the animal shelter with a service project to benefit the animals. We always need canned food for cats and dogs, puppies and kittens!


Jr. Pet Care Badge for Scouts - Troops with ten or more scouts in 3rd grade or above receive a 90-minute tour and program to meet some requirements of the Jr Pet Care badge. Activities include a responsible pet care video, discussion, and complete tour of the pet adoption center at the animal shelter. Scouts receive an activity pack of worksheets to document badge work and they learn about the responsibilities of pet ownership, how Animal Care & Control works to help people and animals, how to act safely with animals, and about the laws designed to protect animals.
Brownies and Cub Scouts - Troops with ten or more scouts in 1st or 2nd grade are invited to schedule a 60-minute tour and program to learn safe behavior with animals. Activities include an animal bite prevention video, discussion, and tour of the pet adoption center. Brownies working on the Animal Try It badge will receive an activity pack of worksheets to learn safe behaviors with animals.

Tours are available weekdays between the hours on noon-5:00 p.m. Advanced scheduling is required.
Groups with less than ten scouts plus adults will be asked to combine with another scheduled tour.
For reasons of safety, students are not taken through the stray wards of the shelter.
