We are so excited you are interested in teaching your students more about how they can help animals in their community! We offer educational tours at the shelter or we can come to your classroom.  During an educational tour at the shelter students will watch a video based on the which program is chosen below, tour the adoption center and make an enrichment treat for the shelter pets. During a classroom visit students will meet our life-like shelter ambassadors "Kevin and Ringo" and complete which ever program below is chosen at the time of booking. 

Program descriptions:

 

Bite Prevention (Recommended for all ages): Students will learn skills to be a Bite Free Superhero! This fun, interactive program teaches students how to "speak dog" and arms them with the skills to stay safe around pets and unfamiliar dogs. Click here to learn more about this program. 

 

Responsible Pet Owner (Recommended for all ages): Being a pet owner comes with a lot of responsibility! During this hands-on program students will discover all the ways our pets rely on us to take care of their needs. 

 

What is an Animal Shelter? (Recommended for grades K-3): Students will learn what an animal shelter is through the eyes of Loki the Cat. Loki explains how he came to the shelter, how he met his friend Bobby the Dog along the journey and how shelte staff helped him find is forever home! Students will also learn what it means to be an all access shelter, what our Animal Control Officers do in the community, how many animals come through our doors in a year and how we work to find them loving, "fur"ever homes!
