|Bringing home a new dog or puppy is a special time. Making certain your home and family are prepared for the pet is paramount. To help keep dogs and owners together, Animal Care & Control offers a free 90-minute Pet Parenting class held at the shelter the first Monday of the month and at HOPE for Animals on the third Thursday of each month. Pet parenting doesn't come easy for everyone especially a first time pet owner who might not understand normal stages of dog development.
Pet Parenting targets new dog owners with basic animal care information. The program also benefits dog owners who might need to troubleshoot specific behavior issues. At any stage it's important to focus on consistencies. The lecture with video style class covers:
Of course it wouldn't be an Animal Care & Control presentation if we didn't also share information on spaying and neutering, city pet registrations, city leash laws, and pet vaccinations.
Pet Parenting sessions are offered at two locations from 6:00-7:30 P.M. Each class is free to the public although donations to the adoption program are welcomed.
At HOPE for Animals: Third Thursday of the month, 1333 Maycrest Drive, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Dear Animal Care & Control,
"We loved your class. The kids even picked up on so many things from the videos!! Coty has sure been a blessing to me and my kids. My husband is warming to him more and more too!! We've had less chewing and he consistently is letting us know when he has go potty by going to the door and barking!! Thanks for the free class!"
