2010

Until Oct. 13 Salomon Farmer's Market:  Fresh Produce for a Healthy Lifestyle.  Sponsored by the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department.  At the Historic Salomon Farm on 817 W. Dupont Road.  Every Wednesday, 4-7 pm, until Oct. 13.  The market is held in the Old Barn.  Follow the gravel road back past the Learning Center and two other bards to the Old Barn. Stop by for a great selection of fresh produce, flowers, plants, herbs, honey, maple syrup, natural soaps and lotions - all grown or raised locally and most organic.  For more information: (260) 427-6005.
July 3, 2010 Miami Indian Heritage Days. Sponsored by the History Center. Location:  Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road, fort Wayne, IN.  July 3, 1 pm - 4 pm.  Eric Vosteen persents traditional Great Lakes pottery, stone craft and tools.  Cost: $7/Adults, $5/Students & Seniors, 5 & under and members free.  Free parking.  For more information, contact Mary True (260) 426-2882, x 306.
July 13-15, 2010 Follow the Pipes....Visit local churches and the Embassy Theatre and learn about their historic pipe organs.  Sponsored by the History Center and the Fort Wayne Capter of the American Guild of Organists.  For times and details, call  260-426-2882, ex. 309.  Free to public.
August 7, 2010 Miami Indian Heritage Days. Sponsored by the History Center. Location:  Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne, IN.  August 7, 1 pm - 4 pm.  Katrina Mitten will show case native American Bead Work. Cost: $7/Adults, $5/Students & Seniors, 5 & under and members free.  Free parking.  For more information, contact Nancy NcCammon-Hansen (260) 426-2882, x 306.  Miami Chief Jean Baptiste de Richardville built a trading empire in this area that made him the richest man in Indiana by the time of his death in 1841.  His home, built in 1827, is one of the premier attractions in the Historical Society's collection since the restoration of the building's exterior.  Today his house is recognized as the oldest Native American dwelling in the Midwest and the first Greek Revival style house in northeast Indiana.  Persons visiting the Chief Richardville House can also view a Miami long house that is currently under construction.
