Welcome to Fort Wayne City Utilities website!  We've reorganized to make information easier for you to find and to reflect our increasing focus on Clean Rivers.

All information related to the City's clean rivers programs is now located at http://www.cityoffortwayne.org/cleanrivers  At this site you will find information about the City's Consent Decree and the Long Term Control Plan for reducing the sewage that goes into our rivers each year.  You'll also find information about how stormwater runoff affects our rivers.  And there's information about what you can do to help prevent pollution.

There's a new area called Resources for Residents where you'll find News You Can Use.  There you'll find articles about utility topics that you can download and insert directly into your neighborhood newsletter.

For information on the rain garden program being developed by City Utilities, please visit www.catchingrainfw.org.

City Utilities' website is always a work in progress..... so check back often for other changes.

City Utilities Plant First Rain Garden

As part of the implementation of a variety of green initiatives, the City of Fort Wayne planted its first rain garden in April 2008.  Rain gardens are landscaped areas that receive stormwater runoff from rooftops or parking lots during rain storms then allow the water to slowly soak into the ground once the storm has passed.

Mayor Tom Henry was joined by volunteers and City employees in planting over 100 rain garden plants at the City's first demonstration rain garden site at 515 E. Wallace Street.  Over the next few years, Fort Wayne will design and plant 19 more rain gardens at public sites such as schools, parks and universities.

New On-Line Water Quality Database

The St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative -- Fort Wayne's partner in protecting water quality -- has just completed work on a comprehensive water quality database.  The searchable database includes results of the river water quality sampling done by the St. Joe Initiative over the past 11 years along with the results of river water testing done by the City of Fort Wayne and other organizations.  The database can be found at www3.ttsvcs.com/sjrwi/
