NEWS STORY: Dog Reunited with Family, Missing Nine Months
Cricket was reported as stolen after he disappeared from his home early summer 2006. After months of searching and numerous calls to Animal Care & Control, Cricket's family feared they would never see their beloved dog again. When Cricket vanished, he was wearing a collar, city registration tag, and he was microchipped. All hopes of seeing Cricket again had diminished - that is until Cricket's family received a long awaited call on February 20th.
With great pleasure we announced that Cricket was in our care. We found Cricket Tuesday morning in our after hours animal depository, and although Cricket was quite cold and somewhat frightened, he was responsive to heat packs and tender loving care. The microchip verified his name and family. See pictures below of the happy family with Animal Care Supervisor Laura Rowe.

County Pet Owners

affordable spay/neuter surgeries since 1983 and available to any pet owner from
any community. The clinic is located at 1313 Broadway in Fort Wayne, IN., 260-424-5982.
SNAP
- Spay Neuter Assistance Program: Provides financial assitance to low-income
residents of Allen
County to help cover the
cost of altering a pet:
- Applicant must be the legal owner of the
animal and show proof of low-income status.
- Applicant may apply for assistance for no more
than two animals in a five year period.
- Applicant must show proof of current rabies
vacination for each animal.
- Applicant must co-pay:
- $10 per male cat,
- $15 per female cat,
- $15 per male dog,
- $15 per female dog weighing
less than 89lbs,
- $20 for a female dog
weighing over 89lbs.
The SNAP fund was started
in 1987 by shelter employees desperate to slow down the births of accidental
litters born in Allen
County and relinquished
daily to the shelter. In its initial stage, small fund-raising efforts
created enough revenue to help a handful of limited income families. Each
recipient expressed a desire to spay or neuter their pet, but they were unable
to set aside the funds to have it done. Out of the first 500 animals
altered with SNAP funds, 142 known litters had previously been born.
Clearly SNAP is a beneficial program proven to help pets, their owners, and our
community. Over the years SNAP has helped thousands of low-income families
and prevented the unwanted births of thousands of litters. Archives:
