What are iTeams?
The city of Fort Wayne, through the Mayor’s Innovation Initiative, established iTeams (innovation teams) for broadband. The goals of these teams are to find innovative ways to use the broadband technology throughout the city, to create new jobs and new companies in Northeast Indiana.
The iTeams will promote both innovation and investment. Teams will be established in such diverse areas as: health care information systems, intelligent transportation tools, public safety, learning technology, advanced manufacturing, library services, virtual medical services, teaching applications, including teams that will address a compelling need in the community.
Some of these teams will address the digital divide that we have in our community. With the current broadband and the newly laid broadband, almost every home in Fort Wayne will have access to the internet. These teams are set up not only to help those that have limited access to a computers, but also assist in providing content that will help everyone in the community. Be it educational, medical, services, or ways of providing new jobs to the area.
Goals of iTeams Spur innovation
Work on eliminating the digital divide. This includes the gap between those who have computers with internet access and those who do not, as well as the gap between those who are computer literate and those who are not.
Challenge businesses and other organizations to think outside the box to create new services and ways of operation using broadband (high speed internet, above 750kbps download speed)
How iTeams are formed
Our goal is to bring together groups of people with ideas and people in different fields to collaboratively brainstorm an outcome-based project.
We are bringing together people that have ideas with people that have the know how to achieve these ideas. The backgrounds from people will be very diverse, from leaders in the private sector, those that know technology, those that know how to be project managers, people from non-profits, those that can help get funding either through a company or through grants, those that have ideas, and even those that will enjoy the outcome.
There are already iTeams throughout Fort Wayne, many businesses and organizations are utilizing broadband everyday. If you are one of them send us an email or give us a call, we are interested in knowing what you are working on.
