PERMIT FOR ANIMAL BUSINESS OR ANIMAL BREEDER

Application for all permits may be made at our business office, 3020 Hillegas Road, during normal business hours: Monday-Friday 11am-5:30pm, Wednesday until 7pm. For questions call 260-427-1244.

• Grooming Shop or Pet Shop Permit: $100

• Major Breeder Permit: more than one litter in any household in 12 months. (dog or cat) Proper zoning is required. $200
• Minor Breeder Permit: one litter in a 12 month period. The permit fee is reduced to $10 if the dog or cat is spayed after the birth of her litter. If not altered $100
• Kennel/Cattery/Exhibitor Permit: more than three unaltered pets at one address. Proper zoning may be required.

  • 6-15 $150

  • 16-25 $250

  • 26 or more $350

• Exhibitors Permit:  Any exhibitor owning or harboring up to five unaltered dogs or cats over the age of five months may register all animals annually under an Exhibitors Permit after showing proof of eight “Confirmation of Show Entry” forms issued by the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club or other similar national registry association for the 12 month period preceding registration.  Other administrative requirements and care standards apply to this permit.  Interested parties may contact FWACC to discuss guidelines. $150

REGISTER AN ANIMAL EVENT

• All events involving one or more animals and taking place within the Fort Wayne city limits require an Event Permit.

• Permits are $100.  If the event is conducted by a non-for-profit agency the permit is complimentary.

• All events are inspected by the Department of Animal Care and Control.

Registration Tags Required for City Dogs and Cats. 

Your pet will need to wear two tags:  Rabies Vaccination Tag & Pet Registration Tag:
All dogs, cats, and ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies in the state of Indiana beginning at the age of three months. The animal's first rabies vaccination is good for one year.  Dogs and cats may receive three year rabies vaccines after that.  Ferrets must continue to be vaccinated annually.

Each dog and cat in Fort Wayne is required by state law to wear a rabies tag issued by your veterinarian and a city registration tag which can be purchased from your veterinarian or from Animal Care & Control. The city registration is $5.00 for altered animals (Free if you are a senior citizen age 62+) and $100.00 for all unaltered dogs and cats. The permit is your pet's ticket home when found as it can be traced 24-hours a day, even when your veterinarian is closed. The different fee for intact animals is designed to address the issue of pet overpopulation and to move forward toward the euthanasia of fewer unwanted animals in the community. Lifetime Pet Registration:
Now available for pets that are both altered and microchipped. The lifetime registration is available from your veterinarian or at Animal Care & Control where your pet will be scanned to verify that the microchip and information traces to you and your current address. This information may already be on file with your veterinarian if that is where your pet was microchipped. A lifetime registration is $30. Senior citizens (age 62+) pay $5.
