The Green City Business Program was awarded Public Technology Institute’s 2008-2009 Technology Solutions Award for Sustainability presented May 12-14, 2009 in
San Diego, California
. The City of
Fort Wayne
’s Green City Business program is set apart from other cities because of the live interactive training and mentoring a participating business will receive as they become certified. The Mayor's office announced the award on Thursday, July 2, 2009 in this press release.
The City of Fort Wayne received continued support for its Green initiatives, in the form of a $15,000 grant from Wells Fargo. Read the Jaunuary 14, 2009 announcement here.

The Mayor’s Energy Policy was signed by Executive Order on January 11th, 2007. The Energy Policy requires that all city functions include energy conservation, energy efficiency and use of renewable energy in daily and planning activities. This policy was developed in response to the recommendations of the Green Ribbon Commission to institutionalize energy saving programs within the city.
