  •
    • Residents should have their garbage out at the designated collection site (alley or curb) by 5 a.m. on the day of collection. If curbside collection, garbage can be set out no sooner than noon the day prior to collection and containers must be removed from street view no later than noon the day after collection. Due to route changes, collection times will vary.

    • National Serv-All provides the City residential garbage collection service. Their phone number is 747-4117.

    • Bulky items (heavy furniture and non-freon appliances) are to be placed with the garbage for collection. Residents must call the 311 Call Center 48 hours prior to their day of pick-up to schedule a bulk collection.

    • The City will provide a 96-gallon cart to each residential household for collection.  THIS CART IS THE PROPERTY OF THE CITY OF FORT WAYNE AND MUST STAY AT THE RESIDENCE.  Upon Moving, DO NOT take the cart with you.

    • Any extra refuse must be in a 33 gallon garbage can, plastic bag or bundled.  Please be sure extra cans, bags, or bundles do not exceed 60 pounds.

    • Residents that would like an extra 96-gallon cart can rent those from the City for an additional $2 per month.  To rent an extra cart, please call the city 311 Call Center by dialing 311 or 427-8311.

    • Residents are encouraged to take yard waste to the City compost site located at 6202 Lake Ave.  Hours of operation are as follows:

Summer Hours (April - November)

Monday - Saturday:  8 am - 6 pm

Sunday:  Noon - 6 pm

Winter Hours (December - March)

Monday - Friday:  8 am - 2 pm

Yard waste (except for leaves) may also be placed in your garbage cart for regular garbage collection.  Branches must be cut down to 3 feet in length and no larger than 3 inches in diameter.  Branches must be in bundles that do not exceed 60 pounds. Residents my use extra bags or cans for additional yard waste.  However, cans/bags may not be larger than 33 gallons in capacity or exceed 60 pounds.   Leaves cannot be put in with the garbage due to a state ban of leaves in landfills.  Therefore, leaves need to be raked to the curb in the fall to be collected by the Street Department.

  •
    • Items that cannot be placed out for collection include: tires, hazardous waste, concrete, cement blocks or bricks, asphalt, large amounts of construction & demolition debris, and freon appliances.

    • Under the new garbage contract, National Serv-All will only pick up 60 pounds of construction and demolition debris per week.  Examples of C&D debris would be drywall, roofing material, plywood, etc.  This material needs to be in bundles or garbage cans.

  • For details on the disposal of freon appliances, tires, or construction and demolition debris call the City 311 call center by dialing 311 or 427-8311.
