Safety Improvements Coming to Washington Center Road
Fort Wayne, Ind. - To improve safety at the intersection of Washington Center Road and Dartmouth Drive, the City of Fort Wayne’s Division of Public Works will be adding a center left turn lane for both east and westbound traffic. Nearly 27,000 vehicles use this stretch of road every day and there have been numerous police citations and crashes.
In 2008 and 2009 at the request of some residents along Washington Center Road, the City implemented other types of traffic operations (delayed signal phasing and left turn restrictions during peak traffic hours), to test for improvements to traffic conditions. The turn lanes are designed to improve the safety and efficiency of this intersection.
Federal Hazard Elimination Safety funds will be used for the project.
