Section 3

The City of Fort Wayne's Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services is committed to supporting programs, projects and partners that promote local economic development, neighborhood economic improvement, and individual self-sufficiency. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, OHNS's primary funder, requires that certain projects comply with Section 3 of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Act of 1968, which establishes that to the greatest extent feasible recipients of HUD funding must provide job training, employment, and contract opportunities for low- or very-low income residents in connection with projects and activities in their neighborhoods.

The City's Section 3 Outreach Plan is designed to not only meet the HUD's regulatory objectives, but to go beyond them in order to engage as many Fort Wayne agencies and residents in long term employment development activities as possible. Once submitted, applications normally take 7 to 10 business days to process.
