Sewage Overflow Reduction PDF Print E-mail

Overflows from Fort Wayne's combined sewer system are a major contributor to river water pollution.  Sewer overflows cause Fort Wayne's rivers to violate state and federal water quality standards for bacteria on an average of 85 days in a typical year.  Fort Wayne's river water quality improvement program will focus primarily on reducing sewer overflows.

The City's program to improve river water quality by reducing sewer overflows is governed by two documents -- the Consent Decree and the Long-Term Control Plan.  The program to reduce sewage being discharged into the City's three major rivers is summarized in the Sewage Overflow Reduction and Long Term Control Plan Executive Summary.
