Ice Is Dangerous; Skating Not Safe at Outdoor Ponds

Fort Wayne, IN – The skating ponds at Lakeside and Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Parks continue to be closed, as the ice is weak and won’t hold the weight of skaters. Cold temperatures and high winds have produced a thin, smooth ice cover on both ponds, which is enticing to skaters. But Park officials warn that cracking is appearing away from the edges and the ice is much thinner than it appears.

Ponds at Lakeside and Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Parks will continue to be closed this weekend.
The weather forecast calls for snow and warming temperatures.

While the ponds remain unsafe for skating, red lights and flags will be displayed at the sites. Stay safe this winter by following the rules and guidelines of the City and the Parks and Recreation Department.
