32 of Fort Wayne’s neighborhoods will be competing for a cool grand prize in the first ever March Fort Wayne-ness.
We want to see which neighborhood will rally the most support to take them all the way to the final show on Monday, April 4th. https://www.facebook.com/Hochassoc
Hoch Associates, Fort Wayne’s most innovative architecture firm located in downtown has been a long advocate of investing in our “near neighborhoods.” Connecting neighborhoods (for example - Bloomingdale, Nebraska, West Central, Oakland, Williams-Woodland, East Side, Pontiac, North Anthony and others) to downtown and the riverfront activity is necessary to keep building on our regions goal to reach one million people by 2031. Creating vibrant, walk able, connected neighborhoods near the core of the city will be essential to our success as a region. We have teamed up with Indianapolis based Big Car Collaborative and Wunderkammer Company to assist us in this project ensuring a successful outcome for the winning neighborhood.
On Tuesday, March 15th the first round will begin as two neighborhoods go head to head and see who makes it to the next round. We will have two match-ups per day. The neighborhoods were placed on the bracket in random order (based on an on-line random bracket generator site) there is no special placement on the bracket at anytime. As the contest continues, each day will bring us two new match-ups until the final neighborhood is selected. The final neighborhood will receive a Powerful Ideas for Neighborhoods Package created in part by Hoch Associates, Big Car Collaborative and Wunderkammer Company.
Included in the Powerful Ideas Package for winning neighborhood:
*A series of scheduled meetings at Hoch Associates (111 West Berry Street, Suite 200) with Indiana’s leading Place Making organizations Big Car Collaborative and Wunderkammer Company. These meetings will help discuss a project on how to involve public place making into the fabric of the neighborhood by trained leaders.
*A series of scheduled meetings at Hoch Associates (111 West Berry Street, Suite 200) with a select team consisting of Hoch Associates staff, Wunderkammer staff and Big Car Collaborative staff to help the neighborhood select an area where they would like to see general improvement and design a charrette.
*A series of focus groups/ meetings in neighborhood and at Hoch Associates to discuss creating a neighborhood identity.
*Final project is a planned Place making event in the neighborhood (lead by neighborhood leadership), a presentation of a charrette and a complete identity package for the neighborhood that includes new logo and branding guidelines.
