Job Description:

1. SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Golf Green Superintendent, the incumbent assists the in the supervision and implementation of the golf course maintenance program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Supervises maintenance staff and operations;
• Coordinates equipment preventative maintenance program;
• Mows golf courses;
• Supervises course watering and irrigation;
• Performs general course clean-up;
• Performs greens maintenance;
• Trains staff in equipment operation;
• Repairs equipment and waterlines as needed;
• Applies fertilizer as needed;
• Trims trees as needed;
• Lifts 50 pounds and carries the weight a minimum of 25 feet, effort involves heavy lifting in a non-sitting position with high manual dexterity, exerts effort regularly for sustained periods where strain may be intense for frequent or moderate duration;
• Works with moderate exposure to dust, grease, extreme temperature, pollen and grass clippings, or inclement weather with occasional exposure to hazardous work conditions;
• Works within a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours;
• Maintains valid Indiana Driver’s License if City vehicle is used.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent performs routine supervision to one to three cashier starters.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Any combination of education/experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED;
• Two years experience in golf course maintenance and equipment repair;

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

• General knowledge of turf management;
• Ability to use mowers, riding and push, chain saw, utility vehicles, tractors, spreaders, hand tools, etc;
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationships with managers and operating employees of the Parks and Recreation department and the general public.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Indiana Driver's License if City vehicle is used
