Job Description:

SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Manager –the incumbent will provide a high quality and safe ice-skating environment for the customer and the public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Opens, closes and secures facility;
  • Collects user fees for admission to Headwaters Ice Rink as required;
  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, evaluates, disciplines and develops staff and volunteers;
  • Enforces Parks and Recreation Department rules, and adheres to Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, City of Fort Wayne policies and procedures;
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment;
  • Deposits monies in accordance with Parks and Recreation policies and procedures;
  • Develops and recommends an organizational plan and staffing needs for the facility;
  • Assists with planning and supervises implementation of programs and activities;
  • Maintains a positive relationship with all stakeholders, organizations and user groups, including regular meeting attendance of user groups as needed;
  • Oversees concessions related to the Headwaters Park Ice Rink operation;
  • Responsible for revenues, daily financial and attendance reports, monthly and annual reports, and evaluation of financial performance;
  • Sets up and conducts staff meetings, staff training sessions, and monitors safety issues;
  • Survey user opinions annually, evaluates results and implements needed changes.
  • Plan, staff and supervise outdoor ice-skating areas as needed.
  • Answers and directs calls to appropriate person;
  • Assists public and guests as necessary;
  • Assists with various programs and skate sessions as needed;
  • Supervises use of building and groups when needed;
  • Passes out general information forms;
  • Resolves guest problems as necessary;
  • Assists with food vending/concessions stands as needed.
  • Perform light cleaning duties
  • Provides high quality customer service to program and event participants, and the general public;
  • Assists with determining and securing resources needed including facilities, staff, equipment, supplies, instructors, etc.;
  • Prepares and submits reports as needed;
  • Talks to a wide variety of participants and group sizes;
  • Communicates in a professional manner with staff, volunteers, employees, participants, and the general public;
  • Assists with determining and securing resources needed including facilities, staff, equipment, supplies, instructors, etc.;
  • Assists with the raining new staff in the operation of Ice Maintenance equipment, mechanical equipment monitoring and cleaning procedures and other maintenance procedures as needed.
  • Collects user fees for admission to Ice Arena as required;
  • Ability to sharpen rental skates as assigned
  • Drives a Zamboni or ability to learn how to drive a Zamboni in a safe manner and within a limited amount of time;
  • Resurfaces ice as required;
  • Assist in the preparation of the Ice Rink operations manual as directed
  • Work with Riverfront and other appropriate staff to resolve any safety or facility concerns;
  • Ensures that public information on social media, website, and printed materials are accurate;
  • Help to prepare accurate marketing materials
  • Assist with the preparation, implementation, supervision and evaluation of programs as assigned.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The incumbent is responsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management.  If at any time the incumbent is unsure of their role or specific responsibilities, it is the incumbent’s responsibility to refer to their job description and ask for clarification from their supervisor.  Management will work with the incumbent, as needed, to ensure performance expectations are clearly communicated and performance goals are achieved. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise about 15-20 seasonal staff

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective leadership and role model relationship with participants;

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License if City vehicle used;
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR by the American Heart Association within two weeks of employment..
