Job Description:

SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Headwaters Ice Rink Lead Attendant – the incumbent will provide a high quality and safe ice-skating environment for the customer and the public. Skate guards are responsible for the overall safety and monitoring of ice programs, which include public and adult sessions, learn to skate lessons, hockey games, and special events. Must be able to respond calmly and effectively when handling medical emergencies. Must be friendly, courteous, mature, and enthusiastic when meeting the public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Opens, closes and secures facility;
  • Monitor activities during all public sessions
  • Experience in Ice Skating recommended.
  • Respond and handle any injury or incident;
  • Call for emergency services as required;
  • Distribute rental skates and handling return of skates
  • Report patron disciplinary problems and complaints promptly to supervisor
  • Assists with and private and group rentals and special events.
  • Light cleaning duties as assigned;
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
  • Comply with required dress code, wearing required uniform and conduct expectations
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled
  • Collects user fees for admission to Ice Rink as required;
  • Answers and directs calls to appropriate person;
  • Assists public and guests as necessary;
  • Assists with various programs and skate sessions as needed;
  • Supervises use of building and groups when needed;
  • Resolves guest problems as necessary;
  • Assists with food vending/concessions stands as needed.
  • Provides high quality customer service to program and event participants, and the general public;
  • Prepares and submits reports as needed;
  • Enforces Parks and Recreation Department rules, and adheres to Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, City of Fort Wayne policies and procedures;
  • Assists with the supervision and training of volunteers or staff as required;
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment;
  • Deposits monies in accordance with Parks and Recreation policies and procedures;
  • Communicates in a professional manner with staff, volunteers, employees, participants, and the general public;
  • Assists with determining and securing resources needed including facilities, staff, equipment, supplies, instructors, etc.;

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The incumbent is responsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management.  If at any time the incumbent is unsure of their role or specific responsibilities, it is the incumbent’s responsibility to refer to their job description and ask for clarification from their supervisor.  Management will work with the incumbent, as needed, to ensure performance expectations are clearly communicated and performance goals are achieved. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with supervision of instructors and volunteers. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Certified in First Aid and CPR by the American Heart Association within two weeks of employment.
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License if City vehicle used
