Job Description:

SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Manager of Outdoor Recreation, the incumbent supervises the property, livestock, Farmer's Market, special events and Volunteers at Salomon Farm Park.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Works closely with Manager of Outdoor Recreation to determine weekly and daily assignments;
• Conducts weekly monitoring and maintenance of Salomon Farm trail loop;
• Checks, refills, and reports any issues with dog waste stations on the trail;
• Coordinates with Park volunteers;
• Trains and schedules Park volunteers;
• Monitors and maintains all livestock, pens, and pastures;
• Enforces park rules;
• Keeps brochure boxes and kiosks stocked with updated brochures and program information;
• Manages Photography Registration list;
• Performs monthly checks on fire extinguishers and reports any issues;
• Operates a tractor on a routine basis for mowing, wagon rides and other tasks;
• Operates a John Deere Gator during regular park work and maintenance;
• Helps to maintain farm's beehives
• Supervises and performs grounds maintenance;
• Works at and helps coordinate Salomon Farmer's Market ;
• Assists with Farmin' Fun Day Camp programming and staff when necessary;
• Plans, develops and facilitates programs including farm tours;
• Communicates and coordinates with visiting public, rental patrons, seasonal and Parks staff;
• Assists with/ supervises facility rentals as needed;
• Requests grounds maintenance as needed;
• Attends monthly meeting with staff/supervisor.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent has routine supervision over 6-20 volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• High school education, plus 2 years of advanced education in Recreation, Communication or some other related field;
• Must have acquired mower safety/weed trimmer/ tractor operation safety skills;
• Organizational skills contributive to setting priorities, meeting deadlines and coordinating events;
• Effective written and oral communication skills conducive to dealing with the general public, co-workers, subordinates and supervisors;
• Ability to understand moderately complex, relatively standardized tasks, processes or operations;
• Ability to apply routine practices, rules, regulations, procedures or techniques that are relevant to assigned tasks;
• Must possess a moderate amount of experience in supervision;
• Must possess mower safety/weed trimmer safety skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization. Contacts occur with the supervisor, departmental associates and the general public to give and receive factual information about the work.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY
Incumbent makes choices and decisions and acts on varied non-standardized, non-routine assignments. Errors in decision or work are either readily detected and/or corrected through supervisory review. Incumbent has contact with persons employed by other agencies, or with public. Incumbent handles questions, complaints requiring judgment and tact in order to render service, carry out policy or maintain coordination.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Indiana Driver's License if City of Fort Wayne vehicle is used.

Incumbent follows standardized practices, procedures or general work instructions. Work requires analysis and judgment. Verification of work is performed while work is in process, at critical phases and upon completion. Incumbent's work requires some contact with changing conditions, some lifting or moderate labor involved. Incumbent is normally standing or walking; lifting of light objects may be necessary on occasional basis. Incumbent must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and carry the weight a minimum of 10 feet.
