July 19, 2017 - Motorists using Coldwater Road should be on the alert tomorrow as lane restrictions will change from the current configuration. On Wednesday,  traffic will be re-directed to the outside lanes in each direction on Coldwater between Coliseum Boulevard and Essex Drive, and road construction crews will begin work on the inside lanes of Coldwater. North of Essex Drive motorists will be directed to the inside lanes while gas-line crews are relocating a pipe. Additionally, left turns at Coliseum and English Lane will not be allowed during this portion of the construction.

The project will replace the road surface, enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists, improve storm drainage and augment the area with trees and landscaping.

For motorists the improvements include new left turn lanes with better lines-of-sight for drivers.  Pedestrian features include the addition of crosswalk safety signals at four intersections and refuge islands at the midpoint of these crossings. Trees will adorn the median and new gutter lines along with additional green space will assist with stormwater management.

With approximately 27,000 vehicles using Coldwater Road each day the lane restrictions will cause travel delays and drivers should allow extra travel time.

When completed, the improvements on Coldwater will extend from Coliseum Boulevard to Washington Center Road. The first phase of the project is between Coliseum and Essex Lane. Crews are expected to start the second phase from Essex to Washington Center next month.

The project represents an investment of $4.165 million. Brooks Construction is performing the work, which is scheduled for completion in November of this year.
