November 5, 2018 - Monday, November 5 is the start of the new trash and recycling collection days. About 47% of our residents will have a new day. Residents were sent postcards telling of their new day even if they didn’t have a change. For residents needing information about their new schedule, an interactive map is available at MyNewTrashDay.com. The site allows users to enter their address to find their new garbage and recycling collection day quickly.

Residents are reminded to have their carts set at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection. Carts should be at least three feet apart.

In August, Mayor Tom Henry formed the Working Group on Garbage and Recycling, comprised of members of the Fort Wayne City Council,  neighborhood leaders/residents, City staff members and representatives from Red River Waste Solutions Inc.  The goal was to improve the collection process and decrease the number of missed collections each week.  Last month the group announced that shoring-up the geographic collection routes to avoid crisscrossing the City multiple times each day would have the most significant improvement.  The route map is now consolidated into geographic areas to improve efficiencies, assist with collection during periods of worker shortages, and improve quality control by having all supervisors in one area each day of the week.
