March 26, 2019 - The City of Fort Wayne will receive $1 million from the State’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Fund Program. The Indiana Department of Transportation announced the awards for northeast Indiana communities earlier today.

The grant will go toward the City’s Goshen Avenue improvement project that will be bid in May and begin construction this summer. Under the State program, the award can cover up to 50% of the project.

The Goshen project will improve safety for motorists and pedestrians and will spruce up the corridor. Enhancements include a center turn-lane between Sherman and Cambridge Boulevard, sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, ADA ramps, trees, shrubs and other landscaping features, new ornamental lighting, drainage improvements including green infrastructure to control stormwater and a roundabout to address traffic flow issues at the five-legged intersection of Goshen, Sherman Boulevard and Lillian Avenue. More than 18,500 vehicles per day enter the five-legged intersection.

Last week, Mayor Tom Henry announced the local funding of $31 million for neighborhood transportation infrastructure improvements to occur in 2019.
