April 22, 2019 - Water delivery pipes that have experienced 40 breaks over ten years, with seven occurring last year, are being replaced to support the homes and businesses along North Clinton Street. Work will begin next week on Phase 1 of a two-phase water main replacement project on more than a mile of water mains. The improvements will cause traffic lane restrictions, beginning Tuesday, April 23.
The outside lane of southbound North Clinton will be closed from Grove Street to Dalgren Avenue. Access will still be available to nearby businesses including AutoZone and The Salvation Army. As the pipework on Phase 1 progresses, the restrictions will move north. Motorists using southbound North Clinton should plan for extra time in their commute.
Phase I of the replacement is the pipe on North Clinton from Grove and Edgewood Avenue, via Lima Road, and on Edgewood from Lima to Figel Avenue.
Phase two will include North Clinton from Penn Avenue to Ridgewood Drive, and the remainder of Edgewood to where it becomes North Clinton again, and up to Ridgewood Drive. Phase II will go to through the Board of Public Works bidding process next month.
Since 2000, City Utilities has replaced nearly 95 miles of vulnerable water main pipes. Much of that work occurred in the last five years. The replacement of the pipe on North Clinton is part of a City Utilities' commitment to replace 70 miles of aging water pipe over the next five years.
