Janaury 27, 2020 - Mayor Tom Henry’s Youth Engagement Council (MYEC) will participate in the upcoming Youth Climate Action Day. The event will take place from noon-3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Attendees will tour the Statehouse and meet with legislators to discuss climate issues.

Mayor Henry has made energy a priority for 2020 as the City of Fort Wayne looks to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and explore alternative energy sources, such as solar energy. Currently, City Utilities has a resource recovery program at the Water Pollution Control Plant. The City converts organic waste into methane to power buildings at the plant. The result has been a savings of nearly $2 million on electricity costs.

MYEC is a service learning group comprised of high school sophomores-seniors from the City of Fort Wayne. The members provide a voice for the youth of Fort Wayne to local government by engaging their peers, creating innovative solutions and working on projects.
