October 28, 2020 - Beginning today, West Columbia Street will be open to vehicles on a trial basis. The current plan is to allow 15-minute parking along the north side of the street between the designated parking signs that have been installed. The street will be one-way with the south lane open for vehicles to travel east to west. The street will be open to vehicles Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed to vehicles every weekend and in the evenings.

During the colder months, these changes will allow vehicles easy and quick access to ground floor retail and restaurants so customers can continue to support these local businesses. Additionally, individuals with disabilities can be dropped directly at the business they are visiting. If needed, the gates on either end of West Columbia can be dropped easily, allowing for the street to be closed to vehicles for community gatherings or events.

The City of Fort Wayne and the Model Group will work together to evaluate the impact of opening the street to vehicles and make changes as needed. The priority will be to ensure businesses on The Landing are successful while also maintaining the special qualities of The Landing as a gathering space for pedestrians.
