October 7, 2024 - In a joint proclamation, Mayor Sharon Tucker and the Allen County Commissioners have proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. 

Whereas,  National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is celebrated each October to recognize the contributions, achievements, and potential of people with disabilities to the workplace; and

Whereas,  The City of Fort Wayne and the County of Allen commemorate NDEAM to recognize those contributions locally and to confirm their commitment to ensuring disabled workers have access to good jobs, including those in the government sector; and

Whereas,  The City of Fort Wayne and the County of Allen affirm their commitment to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and breaking down barriers to employment for people with disabilities; and  

Whereas,  A diverse, nondiscriminatory workforce benefits local government, and by extension its constituents, by bringing a variety of perspectives and ideas to the table, which can lead to unique solutions and innovations; and  

Whereas,  Good jobs change lives; consequently, all workers deserve the opportunity to prepare for, obtain, and succeed in them;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen together with the Mayor of the City of Fort Wayne hereby proclaim the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month and invite all employers and citizens to commemorate this important event.
