LOWER HUNTINGTON ROAD

Investment: $1.9 million
Description: Project includes spot repair and replacement of concrete street on Lower Huntington Road between Airport Expressway and Fairfield Avenue (Tillman Road.)
Improvements also include repair and installation of sidewalks and installation of a trail and sidewalk along the North side of Lower Huntington Road between Tillman and Winchester Road, which will connect to the Rivergreenway.
In addition, the project calls for updating sidewalk ramps, in accordance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
PLEASE DO NOT MOVE BARRICADES
Newly poured concrete needs 7 days to cure. Do NOT move barricades and drive over concrete that is curing. It can damage the concrete, reduce the pavement’s life -- causing it to crumble within months. Please be vigilant and stop people from moving barricades.
UPDATE (Sept. 21, 2015): All punch list items complete.
UPDATE (Sept. 2, 2015): Completed "Walk thru" with Contractor and developed "punch list" of items that must be completed. Contrator given until 9/30/15 to complete all punch list items.
UPDATE (Week of Aug. 24): Contractor to have subcontractor do final hydroseeding of project and seed-mulch adjacent to trail. They will also finish gate for trail.
UPDATE (Week of Aug. 15): Lower Huntington Rd. is OPEN TO TRAFFIC. Contractor worked on backfill behind curbs, finished some ADA ramps and misc. curbs. Pavement markings and stripping was installed. Gate contractor started on gate for trail.
UPDATE (Week of Aug. 3): Contractor will finish pouring concrete in south lane and starting Saturday 8/8/15 pour largest portion of intersection of Lwr. Huntington Rd. and Airport Expressway. Trail tie-in is stoned and preped for asphalt.
UPDATE (Week of July 27, 2015): Contractor will continue to pour areas to west and east of Winchester and will excavate and pour remaining bad areas in intersection of LHR. and Airport Expressway. Greenways Dept. has hired a tree removal company to address the downed tree lying on the exist. trail where tie-in will talk place.
UPDATE (Week of July 20, 2015 ): Contractor was able to pour intersection of Winchester and Lwr. Huntington Rd. on Thursday, July 23 and anticipates opening intersection early in week of July 27, 2015. Intersection will be treated as a 4-way stop. Work continued on ramp down to trail tie-in. Sub-contractor worked to excavate most all of street concrete. Most open areas will be stoned Friday 7/24; the exception would be area on far south east of Winchester.
UPDATE (Week of July 13): Between rain events, crews continue to excavate farthest south, east bound lane, prep sub-grade, prepare sub-base and pour concrete.
UPDATE (Week of July 6, 2015): Contractor hopes to finsh work on north side and flip traffic to north side, in order to continue work on the south side.
UPDATE (Week of June 28): Contractor continued work on north side of roadway. Started work on multi-use trail on north side east end. Preped for moving traffic to north side sometime after the 4 July Holiday weekend. Street Light Contractor was able to remove 5 light poles out of the way for the trail.
UPDATE (June 16, 2015): Contractor plans to pour concrete on East end of project, to include intersection with Winchester Rd. They will also continue work on trail connection and sidewalk pours. Will work to replace slabs in intersection with Airport Expressway, by phasing to cause least impact to traffic. Additionally, contractor will use higher cement ratio in intersection proper, to speed cure times.
UPDATE (June 9, 2015): In early June, the contractor started removal of concrete on east end of project, north side. They began working to relocate street light pole at NE. Corner of Lower Huntington and Airport Expressway. They also began working on pouring curb ramp and concrete curbface walk on same corner.
The week of June 8, 2015, the sub-contractor planned to begin pouring sidewalk / trail on bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday. Prime contractor will be prepping for and pouring concrete. The CIty street light team will begin final coordinations to move street lights back in the section from Winchester and Bridge.
UPDATE (April 10, 2015)
LOWER HUNTINGTON at WINCHESTER ROAD closures: Please be advised that beginning Friday April 10, 2015 Winchester Road traffic will be restricted from crossing the intersection of Lower Huntington Road. All north and south traffic on Winchester Road will be restricted to right turns only onto Lower Huntington Road. There will be marked detours for traffic using Fairfield Avenue, Airport Expressway, Dunkleberg Road and Winchester Roads.
This closure will be for a City Transportation Engineering concrete pavement improvement package taking place within the intersection.
Brooks Construction will be doing the work and -- weather permitting -- it will be completed by April 30, 2015. Traffic restrictions and lane shifts along Lower Huntington Road will remain in place for the remainder of the concrete repair work.
Brooks Construction will be responsible for the placement and maintenance of all construction signs and barricades in the work zone.
