The City of Fort Wayne'€™s Fleet Management Department has been recognized by "Fleet Equipment" magazine as the ninth best fleet in North America.

Larry Campbell, City Fleet Manager and Bob Kennedy, Associate Director of Public Works and Utilities are in Chicago today to accept the award.

The City was recognized for the following accomplishments:

*Federal General Services Administration (GSA) vehicle specifications were approved and added to the City'€™s website for purchases in 2005. The new bid process saved the City $100,000 in the purchase of pickup and passenger vehicles. Fort Wayne is the first city in Indiana to use GSA specifications.

*Seven hybrid vehicles were added to the City'€™s fleet. The hybrids will save the City $112,000 in fuel costs.

*More than 300 City vehicles now use biodiesel fuel. The use of biodiesel has resulted in a $50,000 grant from the State of Indiana and federal tax credits.
