Job Description:

SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Fort Wayne UNITED Ten Point Coalition Team Lead, the service contractor works in assigned neighborhoods to cultivate and promote cultural and behavioral change using the Ten Point Coalition neighborhood engagement model. This employee is responsible for following the operations managed by their Team Leader and the Fort Wayne UNITED Ten Point Coalition Director. The employee is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with City and department policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to appropriately interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Key duties include: 2nd and 3rd shift neighborhood patrolling on foot, attending team meetings, and implementing neighborhood and community outreach. This position reports directly to their Team Leader and will have direct access to the Ten Point Coordinator.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Walks with a team of 3 or more team members and a team leader nightly, or as often as schedule for operations requires or allows. Some flexibility for which nights and for how long will be made taking into consideration depending on other jobs the employee may have. Length of patrols can vary from 2 to 4 hours per night, but also include times where emergency responses are needed.
  • While walking, team members focus on a specific geographical area and will:
    • Engage neighbors to identify community strengths, weaknesses, and threats of safety;
    • Provides information and resources related to helping neighborhood residents in the focus area;
    • Help to connect neighbors to organizations and non-profits that can provide extra support;
    • Help to prevent or defuse situations that are capable of becoming dangerous or violent;
  • Abides by administrative policies and procedures for day-to-day operation of the organization;
  • Serves as the neighborhood liaison for service needs and neighborhood priorities;
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders in the assigned neighborhood;
    • Identifies neighborhood influencers;
    • Establishes creditable relationships with individuals and families;
    • Utilizes those relationships to strategically enhance the organization’s mission;
  • Understands strategic organizational initiatives and the implementation of those initiatives for the assigned neighborhood;
  • Reports to and works closely with the Team Leader to seek his/her involvement in operational decisions;
  • Identifies priorities to increase the overall visibility of the organization throughout the selected neighborhood;
  • Attends and participates in all staff meetings;
  • Communicates directly with Team Lead to inform of progress, needs, and wants in the assigned neighborhood;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Ten Point Coalition Coordinator.
  • Governance: Works with fellow Street Team Personnel and the Coordinator to fulfill the organization’s mission. Responsible for:
    • Leading in a manner that supports and guides the initiative’s mission as defined by the Board.
    • Communicating effectively with the Ten Point Coalition Coordinator to provide timely and accurate information necessary for day-to-day operations.
    • Managing Street Team Personnel.
    • Implementation of the organization’s grass roots strategy.
  • Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with the Coordinator, Team Leaders and Street Team Personnel to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programming, strategic planning, and community outreach. Responsible for:
    • Having a full understanding of the mission, strategic plans and goals of the organization.
    • Implementation of the organization’s strategies that are aligned with the organization’s mission.
    • Holding self and other Street Team Personnel accountable to ethical and moral standards, ensuring proper creditability of the organizations presence in the assigned neighborhood and our community.
    • Enhancement, growth, and positive reflection of the Fort Wayne UNITED Ten Point Coalition image by being active and visible in the community.
  • Organization Operations: Implementation of the Ten Point neighborhood engagement model to reduce violence in assigned neighborhoods. Responsible for:
    • Effective and ethical implementation of Fort Wayne UNITED Ten Point Coalition operations.
    • Practicing proper and ethical protocol while working in the assigned neighborhood by using established communication lines and conducting ethical interactions with individuals and community influencers.
    • Collecting data and reporting that information to Team Leaders.                      

MARGINAL DUTIES

Performs other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The incumbent is responsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises two Team Leaders who each supervise a staff of 4-6 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • High School diploma is encouraged, but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Fort Wayne UNITED Ten Point Coalition staff.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to objectively analyze and recommend solutions to planning problems and issues. Ability to write and speak clearly and concisely to produce reports and proposals, and make oral and graphic presentations; and knowledge and understanding of basic word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to review the work of engineers, design, or other consultant plans and recommendations. Incumbent is expected to contribute toward resolving many complex issues concerning departmental goals and objectives. A considerable portion of the work will entail project development and studies along with supervisory and administrative duties. Independent analysis and plan development with minimal direction is expected.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Indiana driver’s license, if a City vehicle is used.
