Job Description:

SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Golf Green Superintendent, the incumbent maintains golf course grounds, prepares golf course for day’s play including setting of tee markers and cutting holes and assists Golf Superintendent with maintenance of equipment and with other designated duties. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates mowing equipment including tractors, riding mowers and other specialized equipment;
  • Rakes sand bunkers, removes debris;
  • Changes hole placement;
  • Sets tee markers;
  • Assists Golf Superintendent;
  • Oils, greases, cleans, and helps maintain equipment;
  • Cleans maintenance buildings and parking areas.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other duties as required.

The incumbent is responsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management. Management will work with the incumbent, as needed, to ensure performance expectations are clearly communicated and performance goals are achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma not required, Incumbent may be less than high school graduate;

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of golf helpful;
  • Ability to understand moderately complex, relatively standardized tasks, processes or operations;
  • Ability to understand work processes, methods and use of equipment machinery;
  • Ability to get on and off tractors and like equipment
  • Ability to drive golf maintenance equipment;
  • Mobility and strength to change hole placements and tee markers and perform minimal maintenance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using money, weights and measures, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Valid Indiana Driver's License if City vehicle is used

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Effort is exerted for short periods of time. Strain involved is not prolonged. Effort involves pushing, pulling, reaching, and bending. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Work is performed while in an abnormal sitting or standing position. Manual dexterity is moderate.
