YouTube videos showcase city’s attributes, social offerings in short, fun clips

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Mayor Tom Henry today introduced two Fort Wayne college students who are sharing their adventures of Fort Wayne through the eye of a video camera. Damon Dominique and Khin Phyu, are exploring the Summit City and are creating short videos on the many events, activities and attractions that the city has to offer, as part of the City’s Discover Fort Wayne initiative.

Mayor Tom Henry praised the two young video entrepreneurs at a news conference for participating in the Discover Fort Wayne “My Video” project, which started this spring, by posting their videos on YouTube.

“Damon and Khin are to be commended for their creativity and desire to share their pride in Fort Wayne,” Mayor Henry said.  “I’ve always believed that our young people have much to contribute to our community and have a fun, even edgy take on what makes Fort Wayne a great place to call home.”

So far, the dynamic duo has created “My Fort Wayne” videos on statues of local historical figures, the July 4th fireworks celebration, Riverfest and several Three Rivers Festival events.  Their goal in videotaping their adventures is to document the many reasons why residents enjoy living in Fort Wayne.

The videos are listed in the Favorites section of the City’s FortWayneIND YouTube channel.

Mayor Henry encourages others to submit My Fort Wayne videos. They can post them to YouTube with “My Fort Wayne” in the title and send an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the title and/or link.

Dominique and Phyu got involved with the Discover Fort Wayne “My Video” project after producing a YouTube series of their local adventures captured on video. “Fort Wayne really has a lot to offer and doesn’t get enough credit for things to do. It’s just a matter of getting out there and finding them,” said Dominique.

These college students, both 19, grew up in the Fort Wayne area. Damon attends college at Pace University, and Khin is a student at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

They will continue to produce video documentaries about the Summit City throughout the summer.

“The Adventures of Damon and Khin” are part of Mayor Henry’s Discover Fort Wayne initiative that encourages Fort Wayne residents’ “attachment” to the place where they live. Discover Fort Wayne highlights features connected to the primary drivers of attachment: a community’s social offerings, aesthetics and openness. Discover Fort Wayne ties to the findings of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Soul of the Community report that studied 26 cities, including Fort Wayne, to identify what makes people love the place they live.
