Mayor Henry praises residents, businesses for reporting June 29th storm damage

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) today issued an SBA disaster declaration for Fort Wayne, Allen County and nearby counties because of the recent derecho and high winds that caused heavy damage to Fort Wayne homes and businesses. This means those who suffered damage may be eligible for low interest loans.

The loans may provide assistance to homeowners or renters for property damage, businesses that received damage or lost inventory, and businesses or agriculture facilities and non profits that lost revenue because they couldn't meet obligations. "The word today that Fort Wayne and Allen County are eligible for SBA low interest loans, takes some of the sting out of the severe damage caused by the late June, early July windstorms. This is encouraging to residents who continue to put the pieces together after the recent storm," said Mayor Tom Henry. "I encourage all those affected to apply as soon as possible."

Last week the Indiana Homeland Security Office said Fort Wayne residents overwhelmingly responded to requests for damage filings on its website. More than 280 reports were filed and that prompted Governor Daniels to make the request to the SBA.

Officials with the SBA are arriving in Fort Wayne tonight and will set up a recovery center Tuesday morning at the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana, 7602 Patriot Crossing. The center will be open through Thursday August 16, 2012.

Hours of operation:

August 7-10, 9am-6pm

August 11, 9am-1pm

August 12, closed

August 13 – 16, 9am-6pm

Besides Allen County, the declaration also includes the counties of Adams, Dekalb, Huntington, Noble, Wells, and Whitley in Indiana and Defiance, Paulding and Van Wert in Ohio.
