November 1, 2023 - Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation and Weisser Park Elementary School dedicated the city’s newest Disc Golf Course at Weisser Park today. The nine-hole course is a collaboration with students, the Fort Disc Golf Club and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation and offers a variety of levels of play from easy to more challenging.
“Weisser Park STEAM Magnet School fourth-grade students actively participated in constructing a disc golf course for the community, while concurrently absorbing the academic standards”, remarks Weisser Park Principal Melissa Plumb. She continues, “this project is an epitome of project-based learning. We express our gratitude to the Fort Wayne Parks Department for partnering with us and transforming our students' ideas into a tangible reality. This initiative will remain etched in their memory for a lifetime.”
Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel said, “we’re thrilled to partner with community organizations like Weisser Park Elementary School and the Fort Disc Golf Club. These kinds of collaborations are key to many of the successful projects we are able to complete for Fort Wayne citizens and visitors.” He adds, “we are grateful to the students for bringing the proposal to meet a need for year-round access to the growing sport of disc golf in Fort Wayne’s Weisser Park. I would also like to thank the members of the Fort Disc Golf Club and our planning staff who selected the designs to allow for the course to co-exist with multiple park activities.”
With the addition of the course at Weisser Park, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation maintains a total of six Disc Golf courses. Find them also at Shoaff Park, Swinney (East and West), Tillman Park and Bob Arnold Northside Park.
