March 16, 2021 - A large residential area within the Northside Neighborhood is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the nation’s official list of properties considered worthy of preservation.

The Driving Park—Seven States Historic District is the area within a boundary that is roughly Vermont Avenue on the south, the homes lining Crescent Avenue and Florida Drive on the east and west to State Boulevard on the north, then the homes lining Florida, West, and East drives between Curdes Avenue and Dodge Avenue. 

March 15, 2021 - The City of Fort Wayne’s Public Works Division is partnering with the Fort Wayne Public Art Commission to select a sculptural artist to install public art at the center of the Five Points intersection at Goshen Avenue and Sherman Boulevard.

This is a gateway piece which will complement the City’s recently completed Phase I of the Goshen Avenue reconstruction and modernization project. The work included a conversion of the Five Points intersection, landscaping, improved drainage, new street lights and signalized intersection improvements, and the repair of existing sidewalks and curb ramps. New sidewalks were added in areas that were not previously connected. The first phase of the project was completed in October 2020. 

March 16, 2021 - The National Civic League on Tuesday announced that Fort Wayne is one of 20 finalists chosen to compete in June for the distinction of being named an All-America City. The City of Fort Wayne submitted its application for consideration in February. The award, given to 10 communities each year since 1949, celebrates and recognizes villages, cities, counties, tribes and regions that engage residents in innovative, inclusive and effective efforts to tackle critical challenges. The 2021 spotlight for the Award is efforts focused on building equity and resilience. The communities, representing 15 states, range in size from 9,000 residents to over 1.2 million. The Fort Wayne All-America City team will participate in a virtual presentation on June 7. 

March 12, 2021 - Foster, Shoaff and McMillen Park Golf Courses will open for the season during the week of March 15, depending on weather and course conditions.

City golf course daily open times will be based on daylight and weather conditions. When inclement weather occurs, courses may close for a short period, or for the day, depending upon the severity of the weather.
