March 5, 2021 - The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division today announced that a new Emergency Rental Assistance program has been established to help those struggling to pay rent and utility bills because of challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications will be accepted beginning at 9:00am on Monday, March 8th.

The City received $8.1 million in funding for the Emergency Rental Assistance program from the U.S. Department of the Treasury which is administered by the City of Fort Wayne’s Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services (OHNS).

March 4, 2021 - Fort Wayne UNITED’s TenPoint Coalition, in partnership with Parkview Health, will distribute Peace of Mind (POM) Packages filled with nonperishable food items and TenPoint Coalition COVID kits, which contain youth and adult masks as well as hand sanitizer, to members of the community who are struggling in these difficult times.

On Saturday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m., those in need are encouraged to utilize this drive-thru service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 3705 S. Anthony Blvd. Please enter from Euclid Ave. Distribution will take place until supplies run out.

February 23, 2021 - City Utilities asks residents to assist in clearing the more than 22,000 storm drains throughout the community.  As temperatures warm and snow begins to melt, residents should check and clear storm drains from piles of snow, ice chunks, trash and debris, that can block the flow of melted snow as it heads for the drain to leave the neighborhood.

Drains that are clogged or blocked can cause water pool and stand in neighborhood streets and yards or even back-up into homes.

March 3, 2021 - This March, Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control is participating in the No Place Like Home Challenge - launching new resources for pet owners and offering free microchips and ID tags to increase the number of lost pets returned to their owners.

The No Place Like Home Challenge is a national effort to keep more pets at home and out of the shelter, focusing on lost pets. One in three pets will become lost at some point in their life. In 2020, only 38% of the 4,667 lost animals that were brought to FWACC were reclaimed by their owners.

February 19, 2021 - Due to the large amount of snowfall in the area this week, some alleys have become impassable and trash and recycling trucks have been getting stuck in the snow. Citizens are urged to remove any vehicles parked in their alleys that may be obstructing snow removal and garbage and recycling collection. City of Fort Wayne crews have moved small plows and loaders into the impassable alleys to remove the snow, but with the large amount of snow, and ice underneath the snow, it is a slow process. Any alleys that aren’t serviced this week will be serviced next week. Citizens are urged to be patient.
