ABOUT CITY COUNCIL
The Fort Wayne Common Council is comprised of nine elected members, one representative from each of the city's six council districts and three at-large members. The district members represent the constituents living within the boundaries of their jurisdiction, while the at-large members represent the citizens as a whole. City Council members may seek unlimited four-year terms.
As the Legislative Body, the City Council has the responsibility of passing ordinances, resolutions, orders and motions for the City's government. Along with those responsibilities, the council also is in control of the City's property, finances, and appropriation of all money spent on behalf of the taxpayers.
City Council members, as elected officials, are entrusted with the duty to provide the ways and means to ensure the safety and security of citizens of the City of Fort Wayne and work to maintain and/or enhance a high quality of life.
The department of City Council maintains an office staffed by the City Council Administrator who is responsible for all aspects of the department including research, communications and media relations, constituent services and department budget/accounting. The administrator also produces local televison programing for City Council members such as "Council Call In", a live call-in program where hosts discuss local issues and take phone calls from citizens. Programs air on Public Access' City TV (Comcast cable channel 58 and FiOS channel 28). The City Council Administrator serves as another contact to assist citizens and neighborhood associations with questions, concerns or comments.
